Hugs Shaker Card

Hi folks,

Wow...two posts in one day! That's a first for me. :) The thing is, I've got quite a few cards I want to share but I've been holding off on posting them until the recipients receive them first.

The recipient of this birthday card is a very dear friend of mine who I've been friends with for 42 years. She is one of the most beautiful people I know, both inside and out. I decided on a shaker card because the sequins and the glitter reminded me of how glamorous she is.

I started out by die cutting the Hugs Shaker die from some glitter cardstock. I then adhered a piece of acetate to the back of the die cut, just slightly smaller than the die cut. I adhered thin strips of foam tape all around the back of the die cut to form a "well". Next I added a generous amount of sequins inside the shaker die cut, then locked them in by adhering a white cardstock backing.* I then set that piece aside to start working on the panel.

For the panel, I used an Altenew stencil and a mini ink blending tool to blend three Distress Oxide inks: Fossilized Amber, Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet. I went over it several times until I was happy with the blending and intensity of the colour. I then spritzed on some water droplets and blotted it with a paper towel. Next,  I flicked on some Perfect Pearls to give the panel a little shimmer. Then I die cut the panel using a stitched rectangle die by Lawn Fawn.

I adhered the panel to an A2 sized card base which I cut out from some Lawn Fawn Sugarplum cardstock. Then I adhered the hugs shaker onto the panel. *In hindsight, I should've adhered the shaker window directly to the inked/stenciled panel instead of backing it with white cardstock first. That way you could see the stenciling behind the shaker die. But sometimes I don't think things through to the end. By the time I realized my error in judgement, it was too late to go back and fix it. Oh well. Stuff happens. And it turned out just fine the way it is.

I white heat embossed a sentiment onto black cardstock and trimmed a notch on the end to make it look like a banner. I then adhered it to the bottom left side of the card. Lastly, I added some 4mm clear droplets to the front of the card to finish it off.

Swan Wedding Card

Hello friends,

Today I'm sharing a wedding card I made for my daughter's wedding. The wedding was this past weekend and I'm still feeling all the feels from that beautiful day. It's been quite an emotional roller coaster ride the last few months. She's my first child to leave the nest and I miss her so much already, but I'm slowly getting used to this (partially) empty nest.

The card I created features the lovely Splendid Swans stamp set by My Favorite Things.

The card is a standard A2 size (5.5" x 4.25"). First I created the background by inking up a white cardstock panel of the same size with Distress Oxide Inks: Tumbled Glass, Worn Lipstick, and Spiced Marmalade. I added a few droplets of water and dabbed it with a paper towel to make it look like water splatters.

Then I created the scalloped frame by using a Lawn Fawn die, which is actually from their Scalloped Rectangle Stackables set. Since I didn't have the actual frame die, I simply used my exacto knife and steel ruler to cut a rectangle around the inside of the scalloped panel to create the frame. Once that was done, I adhered it to my card panel.

Then I stamped the swans, the lily pads, flowers and cattail plants in Versafine Onyx Black ink which I heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I watercoloured the images with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. Once those were all coloured, I fussy cut them and set them aside. I then stamped and heat embossed the lovely sentiment.

Next I started planning out my pond scene.Once I was happy with the placement of my images, I glued them down using my Lawn Fawn glue tube and popped up the swans and the flowers with 3-D foam dots.

As a finishing touch, I added 4mm clear droplets in various places. And that's my finished card!
