Sketch Week with Scrapbook Nerd

Hello friends,

It's time to share another card project (yes, you read that right, project, not projects). I think this is the first time I'm not sharing more than one card for my weekly Design Team post. My excuse? I've been so busy preparing for Crop & Crop Cornwall this upcoming weekend. Between planning the scrapbooking projects I'm going to work on and trying not to pack the farm, I sadly ran out of time to create more cards. I shall endeavour to do better next week! :) Here's the sketch that I was inspired by this week:

And here is the stamp set I used for my card project. It's the Colour Layering Swallowtail stamp and die set by Hero Arts. The layering stamps are very simple to line up. All you need is three different coloured inks. First you stamp the most solid image in your lightest colour, then the next solid image in a darker colour, then finally the least solid image with your darkest colour. Same with the flower. For the center of the flower, you only need two ink colours. I like to use the Altenew mini ink cube sets because they come with four coordinating colours which makes it so effortless to stamp in layers.
First, I trimmed a white card panel to 4" x 5.25". I used the Altenew Volcano Lake mini ink pad and the Altenew Broken Chevrons Stencil to ink up the left side of my panel.

I stamped the flowers and butterfly with the following mini ink cube sets by Altenew:
Sea Shore, Shades of Purple, Warm and Cozy and Pocketful of Sunshine. I adhered the orange flowers with liquid glue and popped up the teal flower with foam tape. I also used foam dots on the butterfly to add dimension.

I then embossed the sentiment onto black cardstock using Versamark Ink and Brutus Monroe Alabaster White embossing ink. I die cut the sentiment using the largest die in the Everyday Sentiment Banners die set by Lawn Fawn. I added foam dots and tucked the sentiment slightly underneath the butterfly.

I adhered the panel to some matching Bazzill cardstock that I trimmed to 4.25" x 5.5" and then adhered that to a standard A2 sized white cardbase. I then added some Starry Sky Jewels by Pretty Pink Posh as a finishing touch.

Anything-but-Basic Blooms with Scrapbook Nerd

Hello friends!

I hope you're enjoying the last of this beautiful sunshine we're having this week, our final week of summer, before Autumn officially starts on Monday.

I don't know about you but I kind of don't mind that summer is over. This is typically the time of year when I enjoy crafting the most because I have more time for it as well as attending crops and other scrapbooking events.

This week for the Scrapbook Nerd Design Team I was inspired to create floral cards with a stamp set that is new to me by Altenew called Basic Blooms. These gorgeous layering stamps are anything-but-basic! Coupled with Altenew mini cube inks, they are top notch in my humble opinion. But I'll let you be the judge. :)

For the background panel, I used Fog cardstock by Lawn Fawn which I trimmed to 4" x 5.25". I then stamped the panel using the large woodgrain stamp from Altenew's A Walk in the Woods stamp set using Distress Oxide Pumice Stone ink for a tone-on-tone look. Next, I stamped the flowers and leaves using the Altenew mini ink cube sets Cherry Blossom and Tropical Forest, starting with the lightest colour and progressing to the darkest.

I die cut the Frilly Frames die by Altenew out of white cardstock. I arranged the frame, the flowers and leaves and adhered them with liquid glue and foam dots to pop the flowers. For the centers of the flowers, I added Studio Katia Onyx Crystals. The sentiment is from Altenew and it's called One Friend. I heat embossed it using Versafine Onyx Black Ink and Ranger Clear Embossing Powder. The second part of the sentiment is stamped on the inside of the card. I adhered fun foam to the back of the panel and glued it to a white standard A2 sized card base.

My second card uses all the same products and techniques. I did change up the colour of the frilly frame and offset it to the right of the panel.

I also stamped the other flowers that come in this stamp set in Pocketful of Sunshine and Shades of Purple mini ink cubes. The sentiment is from the Mini Hello stamp by Altenew. I mounted this panel using fun foam onto a black A2 sized card base.

For my final card, I added more flowers in a wreath type of style. The frilly frame was die cut out of black card stock this time and the panel was foam mounted onto a Lawn Fawn Cilantro card base. All other techniques and products are the same.

Here's a closer look at the beautiful florals. Don't they look so realistic? Here's a tip for saving time by stamping "production style". When I'm working with a stamp set like this, where there are multiple flowers and layering steps (there are 3 flowers with 4 layers each in this stamp set), I like to use my MISTI stamping tool.

First, I cut out 30 pieces of white cardstock, 2.5" x 2.5" square. Starting with flower #1, I stamp the first layer onto 10 squares, one by one. Then I go back, and stamp the second layer of the same flower onto the same squares I just finished stamping, then the third layer and finally the fourth. Flower #1 is now complete. Then I work on flower #2 and flower #3 in the same manner, until I have 30 flowers, 10 of each type. For me, this is the fastest way to go about it.

Thank you for joining me today. I hope you give layering flowers a try. You can check out the Scrapbook Nerd store for all the supplies I mentioned in this post. I've provided convenient links below:

Quick & Easy Cards Using Washi Tape with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends,

The projects I'm sharing today on the Scrapbook Nerd Facebook Friends group all feature this week's die cutting theme in one form or another. But the true star of the show is this Teal Shadow Washi Tape by Altenew.

This mega roll of washi tape is 4.5" wide, perfect for layering over an entire card panel, and features these gorgeous watercoloured florals in a lovely teal colour. Co-ordinating dies are also available but I die-cut the images for two of my cards in a different way. More on that below.

For my first card, I applied the washi tape to a white cardstock panel measuring 4" x 5.25" and trimmed off the excess. Then I cut a diagonal line through the panel as shown and trimmed the panel down a little further so that it would fit nicely on an A2 sized cardbase. I added Brutus Monroe foam tape to the back of the panel and adhered it to the cardbase.

I then die cut the Thank You sentiment from the Pinkfresh Studio Classic Words die set onto black cardstock three times. I glued them together to create dimension. I then cut out the coordinating shadow die out of vellum for a soft look. I glued it to the front of my panel. And finally, I embellished the card by adding some English Mustard Nuvo Drops. Super quick and easy!

For this next card, I applied the washi tape to an 8.5" x 11" white cardstock sheet. I scanned the sheet through my Brother ScanNCut machine and watched in amazement as my machine magically cut out the images. Sidenote: I just recently purchased this machine and I'm still in awe at what it can do! :)

I then arranged my cut out images on a white 4" x 5.25" white cardstock panel that I had embossed with the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Tiny Dots Embossing Folder.

I adhered the flowers and leaves in a cluster with some DMC Metallic Gold Thread tucked behind. I stamped and heat embossed on vellum a sentiment from the Altenew Fancy Greetings stamp set. I used Versafine Onyx Black Ink and Ranger Clear Embossing Powder. I folded the vellum strip around the panel and glued it to the back of the panel. I then added foam tape to the panel and adhered it to an A2 sized white card base. I finished it off with the same Nuvo drops.

My last card example is similar in design to the one above but I used a few different products. The panel is debossed with the Altenew Dotted Swirls Debossing Cover Die. I applied Distress Oxide ink in Tumbled Glass to the centre of the panel and arranged my florals and leaves in a smaller cluster.

The sentiment was heat embossed onto the panel with the Altenew The Best Thing stamp set. And the rest is basically the same!

And there you have it. Three simple cards that took me very little time to create. Now mind you, I had the help of my ScanNCut to speed things up. Otherwise, I would've had to fussy cut the images out by hand. Which I usually don't mind. I find fussy cutting very relaxing but these middle aged eyes prefer relying on technology. ;)

Thanks so much for stopping by. If you are interested in any of the products I used in my projects today, please head over to the Scrapbook Nerd website or click on the product links that I've provided throughout.
