Sketch Week with Altenew and Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends,

Today I'm sharing with you two card projects inspired by this week's lovely sketch. The cards I created feature products from Altenew and involve no stamping at all. First, let's take a look at the sketch I was inspired by:

I wanted to challenge myself to create cards with colours that I don't normally gravitate to in my cardmaking so I consulted my colour wheel and picked Yellow-Orange. It turns out that Blue-Violet are the complementary colours to Yellow-Orange so I decided to go with it, even though blue and violet are my least favourite colours to work with.

Both cards feature a background panel that is cut from Neenah Solar White cardstock sized 4" x 5.25" and ink blended using the Feeling Dotty Stencil by Altenew and Picket Fence Studios Life-Changing Brushes. On my first card, I used Antique Linen Distress Oxide.

The floral I used is the Fine Bouquet die and the sentiment is the Fancy Hello die both by Altenew. Since the floral die is so intricate, I first applied cardstock to a wide roll of double-sided adhesive tape. I then die cut the floral four times so that I could stack them to create texture and dimension. Once they were cut, I peeled off the protective backing and was very easily able to adhere all four dies together with no fuss or muss that using liquid glue would've caused. As you can see, I kept some of the pieces that popped out of the die and adhered them back into the design.

The Hello sentiment was die cut four times and stacked using Gina K Designs Connect glue. I then applied Gina K Designs Crystalline Drops (Glossy Accents works too) all over the sentiment to create dimension and shine. Once it was completely dry, I adhered the sentiment with glue on the left side and added tiny foam dots to the letters on the right only so those letters could be raised up since the "h" and the "e" were elevated from being mounted over the floral.

I adhered the panel onto an A2 sized kraft cardbase by Neenah, added some 4mm clear droplets by Pretty Pink Posh, and called this one done.

My second card uses mostly the same products and techniques. To change things up, I decided to flip the design horizontally and reverse the colours.

As you can see, this time my background and floral are blue and the sentiment is yellow. For the stenciled background, I ink blended using Distress Oxide Blueprint Sketch.

I adhered the panel onto an A2 sized white cardbase and added some Silver Lining Sequins by Simon Says Stamp as a final touch.

And those are my completed card projects for today.

My challenge to you is for you to create a project using colours that aren't usually your jam. Using a colour wheel is very helpful as it takes the guesswork out of which colours match with what.

Also, please take a moment to visit the Scrapbook Nerd shop to view the products I used in my cards today.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you're having a wonderful day! :)

Mirror Stamping & More Rainbows with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends,

Today I'm excited to share with you a technique called "mirror stamping" that I've been dying to try for quite some time now. I even have a short video tutorial you can watch at the end of this post!

The cards I created today feature products from Lawn Fawn and My Favorite Things and are both rainbow themed.

For my first card, I used the Lawn Fawn Rainbow Die and scraps of different coloured cardstock to die cut the rainbow. My Favorite Things also has a very similar die called Magical Rainbow Die set. I then assembled the rainbow in ROY-G-BIV rainbow order and adhered them to an A2 sized card front. I die cut the clouds from Lawn Fawn Really Rainbow Scallop Paper using Lawn Fawn Puffy Cloud Border dies. I inked the edges with Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink. I adhered them to the card using foam dots.

Next I stamped the unicorn image from the Lawn Fawn stamp set called A Little Sparkle with Versafine Onyx Black Ink and heat embossed it with Lawn Fawn Clear Embossing Powder. I repeated the same process, but this time for the mirror image using the Backdrop stamp by Neat & Tangled. I did some simple colouring with Copic markers and added some sparkle to their horns using the Lawn Fawn Embossing Pen and Wow Embossing Glitter in Clear Sparkle. I then adhered the unicorns with Gina K Designs foam squares over the clouds. I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from the My Favorite Things Rainbow Greetings stamp set and stamped some stars from the Unicorn stamp set in the remaining white space.

For my second card, I used the rainbow strips that were leftover from my first card and adhered them together by applying scotch tape on the back. Next I trimmed some white cardstock to 4" x 5.25". I stenciled the stars onto the cardstock using the My Favorite Things Card-Sized Star Confetti stencils and Tim Holtz Wild Honey Distress Oxide ink. I then went back over the stencil with Nuvo Moonstone Glimmer Paste to give it that sparkle and shine.

Once the stars were dry, I adhered the rainbow to the middle of the card using foam dots. I die cut two red hearts using the Lawn Fawn Outside In Stitched Heart Stackables dies and popped those up over the ends of the rainbow. I then heat embossed a sentiment from the My Favorite Things Rainbow Greetings stamp set using Versamark Ink and Brutus Monroe Alabaster White Embossing Powder onto a blue strip of cardstock and adhered it with foam dots. I adhered the white panel to a blue A2 sized cardbase.

Here's a quick tutorial on Mirror Stamping!

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and that you give mirror stamping a try. If you don't have a stamp positioning tool like the Misti, you can use an acrylic block. I would recommend watching this Jennifer McGuire video for instructions on how to do that.

World Cardmaking Day Rainbow Challenge with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi folks!

Happy World Cardmaking Day! Today I'm up on the Scrapbook Nerd Facebook Friends Group Page with a rainbow card making challenge and a few examples to share with you. Over the summer, I was inspired by all the rainbow cards that were being posted on Instagram. There are many ways you can achieve a rainbow look on your cards and I have lots of examples to show you!

You could cut strips of various patterned paper like I did in the card example below. For this card, I trimmed 1/2" strips of various coloured striped patterns and glued them to the front of an A2 sized white card base in a diagonal fashion in ROYGBIV rainbow order.

The next two cards use single sheets of patterned paper from a 6" x 6" paper pack called Really Rainbow by Lawn Fawn.

You could also get a rainbow look by colouring a stamped image such as the florals above and the candles below. These type of stamps, where the same image is repeated multiple times, is perfect for rainbow colouring!

Another popular way of achieving a rainbow look is by ink blending on a background. Here I used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks.

In my next example, I achieved a rainbow look by ink blending through a stencil.

For this next card, I did some very simple watercolouring in five of the rainbow colours.

In my final example, I cross-stitched on a card panel. Such a fun, handmade touch.

I hope you join us over on the Facebook page and give this challenge a try. The Creative Team has posted lots of other fun challenges too and there are prizes up for grabs, so go check it out!

Have a wonderful day!

It's ALL ABOUT YOU with Gina K. and Scrapbook Nerd

Hi folks,

I don't know about you, but I'm a sucker for a beautiful sentiment on a card. My projects this week for the Scrapbook Nerd Design Team all include an endearing sentiment from the All About You stamp set by Gina K. Designs.

I created two 4" x 4" clean and simple cards showcasing two of the beautiful sentiments above as well as these adorable lovebirds from the All You Need is Love stamp set by Gina K. Designs.

The yellow cardstock is from the Schoolyard pack by Lawn Fawn. I cut it to 4" x 8" and scored it down the middle to make a 4" square card. The black matte is Black Onyx cardstock by Gina K. Designs and it's cut to 3.75" square. The white panel is Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock cut to 3.50" square.

I applied Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Ink through the Crazy Daisy stencil by Gina K. Designs/Thermoweb using a Picket Fence Studio Life Changing Brush, applying medium pressure in the middle and very light pressure towards the outside.

I stamped the lovebirds in Gina K. Amalgam Ink and coloured them using Copic Markers. The colours I used are BG13, BG32, Y35 and Y38. I embossed the hearts and the beaks using a Lawn Fawn Embossing Pen and Wow Embossing Glitter in Clear Sparkle. I fussy cut the images out with a scissor and added them to the front of the card using Gina K. Foam Squares.

The sentiment was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black Ink and heat embossed with Ranger Clear Embossing Powder. The panel was then adhered to the black matte using fun foam and Gina K. Connect Glue.

My second 4" square card uses all the same products and techniques except the card base is Turquoise Sea from Gina K. Designs. I chose to keep this one even more clean and simple by not applying the stencil. I didn't even add jewels to either of these cards. A first for me. :)

My last card is an A2 sized card which took very little time to create. The matte is Lawn Fawn Rainforest cardstock that I stamped with the Gina K. Designs Gauze Background Cling Stamp, Versamark Ink and embossed with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder.

I then applied Gina K./Thermoweb Glitz Glitter Gel in Turquoise Sea through the Crazy Daisy stencil using the Vicki Boutin Palette Knife and set it aside to dry. I used Thermoweb Pixie Spray to hold the stencil in place. Once it was dry, I heat embossed the sentiment in the bottom corner and adhered it to the matte using fun foam for dimension.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you give these clean and simple cards a try. I found the 4" square cards so quick and easy to complete and they're a super cute size.
