Hi friends! I’m so pleased to be
sharing my very first Tuesday Tutorial on the Scrapbook Nerd blog today!
The card I created features the Laurel Frame
stamp and die set by Concord & 9th. This is a layering stamp set
which requires the use of a MISTI or other stamping platform to allow for
multiple stamping in the same position with different ink colours.
In addition to the Concord & 9th Laurel Frame
stamp and die set, I used the Altenew Stone Wall stencil to create an
ink blended background.
First, I cut a 4.25” x 5.5” panel from Neenah Solar White 80
lb cardstock. I positioned the stencil on top of the panel and secured it with
purple tape to my Tim Holtz glass media mat. Using a Life Changing Blender
Brush from Picket Fence Studios, I blended Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry and
Spun Sugar distress inks. These brushes are a real game changer for me. I used
to struggle with blending distress inks but these brushes make it so easy and
provide a seamless blend. I can’t recommend them enough.
Next I went to work on the
stamping. I positioned my first stamp on the MISTI. Instead of stamping the
leaves in traditional greens, I decided to use grey since pink and grey is my
favourite colour combo. You may notice a #1 written on the stamp. I like to
write numbers on the stamps so that I know which stamp to stamp first, then
second, etc. This saves a lot of time. I
went ahead and stamped the frame with Lawn Fawn Hippo and Storm Cloud inks,
starting with the lightest colour for the first layer. For the flowers, I used
Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry. Although there are 3 layers to the flowers, I
chose to only stamp two for this card.
Using the coordinating dies, I positioned them over the
images and secured them with low-tack tape so they wouldn’t move in my
die-cutting machine. Notice I stamped another set of flowers on the side. I’m
going to use pop dots on that image and position it over the flowers on the
frame to create a dimensional effect. Note: The dies that come in this set also
include an inner die to create an opening in the centre of the frame which is
really cool for making shaker cards or just using it as a wreath. But for this card,
I chose not to cut it out so I could stamp my sentiment in the middle. I
stamped the sentiment with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.
Next I added foam
tape to the back of the frame and adhered it to my panel. I coiled some
invisible thread and tucked it behind the frame under the foam tape to secure
it. I applied clear Wink of Stella to the flowers to add some shimmer and added Pretty Pink Posh Blush jewels to the front of the card.
Lastly, I adhered the panel to a standard A2 sized white card
base and that finishes off my card! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that
you give layering stamps a try. With all the different colour combinations, no
two cards will look alike. The creative possibilities are endless!
