Sketch Week with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends,

It's sketch week over at Scrapbook Nerd and I was inspired to create the following cards using Concord & 9th and Pinkfresh Studio products.

Here's a look at the sketch:

My first card was so quick and easy to create. Since the sketch calls for a big sentiment, I tried to make that the main focus of this card.

I started out by trimming a piece of white cardstock to 4" x 5.25". I then stamped the floral from the Concord & 9th Vintage Flower stamp set using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers. I stamped the floral three times, stamping slightly off the sides of the panel.

I then die cut the HUGS letters from the Pinkfresh Studio Adore Alpha Set three times from Lawn Fawn Mermaid cardstock. I adhered the letters together to give it a dimensional look and adhered it to my panel.

I glued fun foam to the back of the panel and adhered the panel to a piece of Mermaid cardstock sized 4.25" x 5.5". I then adhered the panel to a white A2 sized card base. Some 4mm clear droplets from Pretty Pink Posh finishes off the front of the card.

My second card is stepped up a bit with embossing and watercolouring. I stamped the same florals onto Strathmore Cold Press Watercolour Paper, cut down to a 4" x 5.25" panel, using Versamark ink and heat embossed with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl embossing powder.

I watercoloured the flowers using Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers, No. 025 Pink and 047 May Green. I mixed a black marker with a little bit of water and using a brush I flicked paint splatters on the card front (I covered the flowers first).

Next, I die cut the BEAUTIFUL sentiment from Pinkfresh Studio's Classic Words die set onto green cardstock, and two more times onto pink cardstock. I adhered them together just slightly offset so a little pink could peek through. Then I glued it to the front of the panel.

I stamped a sentiment from the Pinkfresh Studio Scripted Bold Sentiments 1 stamp set, and white heat embossed it onto black cardstock and adhered it with 3D foam squares above the die cut word.

I glued fun foam to the back of the panel and adhered the panel to a piece of green cardstock sized 4.25" x 5.5". I then adhered the panel to a white A2 sized card base. I used some Lucy's Cards Mini Mix sequins to finish off the card.

And that completes my card projects for today. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you give some of these techniques a try. All the products I used today are available in the Scrapbook Nerd shop.

We'd love to see you use our sketch and please share your creations on the Scrapbook Nerd Friends group on Facebook.

Have a wonderful day! :)

Foiling Fun with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends!

Today was my first day back at work after taking a two week staycation with hubby. Even though we didn't go away, we were still having fun on day trips and spending quality time with family and friends. The weather was gorgeous almost every day so we took full advantage of the outdoors, which meant very little crafty time for me. But now I'm back in the saddle and ready to start crafting again!

The card projects I'm sharing today feature some Therm-o-web foil transfer sheets. This was my first time using foils and I was pleasantly surprised at how fun and easy they were to work with. What made it even easier was the fact that I didn't need a laminator for this particular technique. All I needed was score tape!

For my first card, I used 1/8" (3 mm) and 1/2" (12 mm) score tape.

I used a paper grid mat to align and space my strips apart evenly. First I applied the 1/2" tape, making sure to leave enough space for the 1/8" tape that I would be adding afterwards. Once I was done, I trimmed off the excess tape and removed the release paper carefully.

I then cut out a piece of Therm-o-web Rainbow Shattered Glass foil and covered the 1/2" tape completely. Using my teflon bone folder, I burnished the foil onto the tape.

I then removed the transfer sheet and voila! The foil was stuck to the adhesive! I then went back and applied 1/8" tape between the foiled strips I'd just created. I cut skinny pieces of the Therm-o-web/Gina K Designs Gold Sequins Fancy Foils, covered the 1/8" tape and followed the same steps above to reveal the gorgeous gold foiling.

I trimmed the card panel down, adhered fun foam to the back and glued it to an A2 sized white cardbase. The sentiment is from the Essentials: Classic Words Die Set from Pinkfresh Studio. The shadow is die cut from black cardstock and the words from white cardstock. I also cut out the shadow from black fun foam and adhered the pieces together to create some dimension. A few gold jewels finish off the card.

For my second card, I used 1/2" (12 mm) score tape but this time I created a diagonal pattern. The foil used here is the Therm-o-web Rainbow Shattered Glass foil. There are five transfer sheets that come in the tube and each sheet has a different colour combo. I love the rainbow look of this one!

I followed the same steps as my first card to do the foiling. I then trimmed the panel down by die-cutting it with a Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle die. I glued a piece of fun foam to the back of the panel and adhered the panel to a white A2 sized cardbase.

The sentiment is from the Birthday Wishes Die-namics by My Favorite Things. I die cut it from some glitter cardstock and also from black fun foam. I adhered the two pieces together just slightly off set so you could see a hint of black.

My last card uses the Gold Sequins foil and 1/8" (3 mm) tape. I started laying the tape down in a geometric pattern, not really thinking of what I was doing. It was when I went to remove the release paper that I realized that I'd adhered score tape over top of other lines of score tape which could make it difficult to remove the bottom release paper without damaging the top layer of tape.

At this point, I had to try to remove it and if it didn't work out, oh well. It's just paper, right? I carefully started to pull up the release paper and when I got to an intersecting part, I pulled the release paper again and it just kind of slipped through underneath the top layer of tape in one fell swoop, if that makes any sense.

If you look carefully at the intersecting points in the close-up photo, you can see that the tape is a bit raised in those parts. But honestly, I think it turned out just fine and the recipient isn't even going to notice.

I adhered the panel onto fun foam and matted it onto teal cardstock. I then adhered the panels to a black A2 sized card base.

The sentiment is from the Essentials: Classic Words Die Set from Pinkfresh Studio. The shadow is die cut from black cardstock and the word "Celebrate" from glitter cardstock. I also cut out the shadow from black fun foam and adhered the pieces together to create a 3D look. A few black sequins complete the card.

I hope you enjoyed learning about one of the fun ways you can use foil. My next foiling card project will involve some stepped up techniques which I hope to share with you soon.

All of the products I used today are available in the Scrapbook Nerd shop.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great day!

"Making a Scene" with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends!

Hope you're all having a wonderful summer so far! I've been enjoying some much needed time off with hubby this week on our staycation. I just wish it wasn't going by so fast.

This week the Scrapbook Nerd Creative Team was tasked with creating a build-a-scene card. When it comes to building scenes, my go-to stamp company is Lawn Fawn hands down. Not only do they have the cutest stamp sets, but they have a wide range of stand-alone dies that can help you create an awesome scene in no time.

I have listed all the supplies I used at the bottom of this post with links to the Scrapbook Nerd store, where available.

I started out by sketching on a blank piece of paper what I wanted my scene to look like. I knew my scene was not going to fit a standard A2 sized card, so I designed the card to fit in a #10 envelope. The standard size of a #10 envelope is 4 1/8" high x 9 1/2" long. I cut my card base to 8" high x 9 1/8" long and scored it across the middle at 4". I then folded it over to create a 4" high x 9 1/8" long card.

To create the sky, I applied Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink to the base of my card using a Life Changing Brush, splattered some water on it and absorbed the excess water with a paper towel.

I die cut the grassy hills using the die that came with the Mushroom Border set and applied Mowed Lawn ink to the edges. Then I die cut the fence from woodgrain cardstock and inked it up with Vintage Photo ink. The sign from the Open Me stamp set was stamped onto Lawn Fawn Really Rainbow Scallops paper.

I die cut the trees and the hammock and assembled them. Next, I stamped some of the images from the Oh Gnome! stamp set and coloured them with Copic Markers. I die cut them using the coordinating dies. The clouds were stamped and die cut from the Plane and Simple stamp set.

Lastly, I die cut all the pieces from the Mushroom House die set onto various coloured cardstock and assembled the house. The lantern and pole were also cut from the same set. The clouds, trees, hammock and house were all adhered with foam dots to create a 3D look.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed this closer look at how I created this card. It actually came together in less time than I thought it would due to minimal colouring and mostly die cutting. And frankly, when I'm having this much fun, time doesn't really seem to matter as much. :)
