Thinking of You Monochromatic Card

Hi friends!

Today I'm sharing a sympathy card I created in a monochromatic scheme. According to Webster's dictionary, the word "monochrome" is defined as follows:

Definition of monochrome
1of, relating to, or made with a single color or hue
2involving or producing visual images in a single color or in varying tones of a single color (such as gray) monochrome film

I chose Fog cardstock by Simon Says Stamp for my panel. This is a really nice light grey tone which matched perfectly with the Lawn Fawn Storm Cloud card base.

I stamped Simon Says Stamp's Flower Explosion background stamp onto my panel using Simon's watermark ink and heat embossed it with Ranger clear embossing powder for a tone-on-tone look. Next I die-cut a circle opening using one of Lawn Fawn's Outside in Stitched Circle Stackables dies.

Using the panel as a guide, I stamped the "Thinking of You" sentiment in the circle opening on the Storm Cloud cardstock with the watermark ink and heat embossed it with Brutus Monroe Alabaster White embossing powder. The sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp Moments of Grace stamp set.

I added foam tape to the back of the panel and adhered it to the card base. As a final touch, I added Studio Katia Onyx Crystals to some of the flower centres.

I'm really loving these 6x6 background cling stamps and highly recommend adding a few to your stash for quick and easy cards like this.

On a sad note, I wish I didn't have to send this card out but unfortunately I do. It's going to a family that we've been friends and neighbours with for years who just lost their daughter too soon. Don't forget to hug your loved ones tightly.

Thank you for stopping by today. If you have any questions, please leave me a comment below.

Hope you are having a wonderful day.

A Stencil and a Sketch with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends!

This week the Scrapbook Nerd Creative Team was asked to create their projects based on a sketch.

I'm a big fan of using sketches especially when I'm short on creative ideas. They provide a great starting off point and allow you to put your own spin on them. Here is the sketch we were given:

For my projects this week, I created two clean and simple cards featuring the Altenew Floral Garden Stencil. I applied Distress Oxide Inks Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Bundled Sage and Mowed Lawn.

This stencil creates a lovely two-toned floral garden. First I applied Tumbled Glass through the top half of the stencil and then Bundled Sage through the bottom. Then I rotated the stencil 180 degrees and repeated, but with the darker colours to create some contrast.

For my first card, I die cut a square from the center of some Lawn Fawn Mermaid cardstock and a larger square from the stenciled panel using Lawn Fawn rectangle dies. I had to improvise a bit because I don't own square dies so I did a partial die cut; a cool technique I learned from Jennifer McGuire. :)

I stamped and white heat embossed the sentiment onto vellum using the Altenew Fancy Greetings stamp set. I adhered the vellum to the back of the panel using double sided adhesive. On a white A2 sized cardbase I applied distress ink to the center area where my square was going to show through. Then I created the shaker portion by adhering foam tape around the opening of the square and the entire panel. I added some Studio Katia Enchanted Sea Fusion sequins and then adhered the panel onto the cardbase. I embellished the front of the card with a few more sequins.

For my second card, I heat embossed the sentiment in black onto vellum. I wrapped the vellum around the leftover stenciled square piece from the first card which I then matted to a square piece of Lawn Fawn Cilantro cardstock.

The white card base was debossed using Altenew's Dotted Swirls Debossing Cover Die. I then adhered the square piece onto the white card base using foam tape for dimension. I added a few Studio Katia Onyx Crystals to finish off the card.

And those are my completed projects. I love clean and simple cards. They're so easy to create and take much less time than a detailed card. And I think the end result is just beautiful.

Thank you for stopping by and feel free to leave me a comment or question below.

And don't forget to stop by the Scrapbook Nerd online store to check out the products I used today. They're having a site-wide summer sale on right now!

Have a wonderful day! :)

Beloved Daisies with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends!

Today I'm sharing two cards I created for the Scrapbook Nerd Design Team that features the gorgeous Beloved Daisy stamp and die set by Altenew.

This layering stamp set contains 3 blooms, 3 leaves plus a stem that you can ink up in a variety of colours. I love all the different ways you can use them on a card or even on your scrapbook pages.

The flowers and leaves on both my cards were inked with the following Altenew mini ink cube sets:

  • Golden Sunset
  • Lapis Lazuli
  • Tea Party
  • Green Meadows

My background panel was inked up with Altenew Iceberg Ink and I applied a thin layer of Vicki Boutin Iridescent Glitter Texture Paste to give it that gorgeous shine.

I then took another white panel and debossed it using the Altenew Dotted Swirls Debossing Cover Die. From that, I die cut an oval using the Gina K Small Oval Double Stitch die. I then adhered my stems and leaves to the background. I added foam tape to the back of the debossed panel and adhered it to the background with the stems and leaves. Then I popped up the flowers with foam dots.

I embossed a sentiment from the Lawn Fawn Wavy Sayings stamp set onto their Spring Fling 6x6 paper pack and cut it out with their Fancy Wavy Banners die and adhered it to the front of the card. A few Cornflower Jewels from Pretty Pink Posh finishes off the card.

My next card is a bit more simple. I took a white panel and inked it up in the middle area using Altenew Chamomile ink and a life changing brush.

I then black heat embossed The Best Thing sentiment stamp by Altenew. I glued the leaves and the stem and popped up the daisy with foam dots. I mounted the panel onto an A2 sized cardbase from Gina K Sweet Mango cardstock. As a finishing touch, I added Studio Katia Onyx Crystals.

Thank you so much for stopping by! As always if you have any questions, please leave me a comment below.

Welcome Card for Twin Baby Girls

Hi friends!

Today I'm sharing a cute card and tag I created for the birth of twin baby girls. Baby cards are so much fun to create and this one came together really quickly.

I used the Simon Says Stamp Oh Baby stamp and die set. It has the most adorable little images; a stork, the sack, bibs, tiny little socks, undershirts, a clothes line to hang the babies clothes on and more. So cute!

To create my background panel, I used Ranger Distress Oxide ink in Picked Raspberry and the My Favorite Things Cloud Stencil. I love how the clouds look so fluffy! I then used the largest of the Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables dies by Lawn Fawn to cut the panel out slightly smaller than the white A2 sized cardbase and set it aside to dry.

Next, I stamped out the adorable images from the stamp set (the stork and two of everything else for the twins). I coloured them in using Copic Markers, added white highlights with a Gelly Roll pen and then die cut them using the coordinating dies. I fiddled around with the placement of the images and once I knew where I wanted them to go, I stamped out the "Welcome Little One" sentiment. I had to slightly modify the sentiment by adding the letter "s" with a fine black marker. Can you tell that it was written in by hand? :)

I adhered all my images onto the panel with foam dots and adhered the panel to fun foam. I glued the panel down to my card base and added some Simon Says Stamp Girl's Best Friend Sequins. I used Wink of Stella on all the stamped images. For a little more bling, I die cut two hearts from pink glitter cardstock and glued them to the sacks.

For my tag, I used a Silhouette cut file. I cut it from pink Bazzill cardstock, the pink gingham paper is from Simple Stories and the cloud was die cut from the Puffy Cloud borders by Lawn Fawn. I added two of those cute little undershirts to the clothes line. The stamp set even has tiny clothes pins you can stamp out. I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set and finished off the tag with some sequins and a little ribbon.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Whether you came here from my Instagram account or Facebook page, I really appreciate you taking the time to check out my projects.

Colour Challenge Week with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends!

Summer is in full swing and man I've been busy. I've been revamping my craftroom with some new furniture, fresh paint and lots of purging and organizing. I'll be posting photos of my new and improved space soon. :)

In the meantime, over on the Scrapbook Nerd Facebook Friends page, the Design Team was tasked with creating projects based on the following colour scheme:

I created three cards using Ranger Alcohol Inks and Ranger Alcohol Ink Silver Sparkle Cardstock. This is my first time using alcohol inks so to help me get started, I watched this video by Jennifer McGuire.

First I'll show you my finished card projects along with details on the products I used. Then I'll have a step-by-step alcohol ink process down below.

I used the following Alcohol Ink colours on all my panels: Sunset Orange, Mermaid, Wild Plum and Sunshine Yellow. I also used Ranger Alcohol Blending Solution and of course the Silver Sparkle Cardstock mentioned above.

Each of my cards feature sentiments from the Pinkfresh Studio Classic Word Dies as well as clear drops from Studio Katia, although once they were glued down they weren't clear anymore lol. They took on the colour of the alcohol ink, which I think looks kind of cool! :)

On the "Love" card, I die cut the Altenew Fine Bouquet die three times on white cardstock and stacked them together to create dimension. I also die cut a frame from the Altenew Fine Frames Cover Die in silver glitter cardstock to match the sentiment. I layered the sentiment on top of the matching shadow die and adhered it to the card with 3D foam tape. I glued fun foam to the back of the panel and mounted it onto an A2 sized white cardbase.

On my "Thank You" card, I die cut the alcohol ink panel using the Pinkfresh Studio Diagonal Stitched Rectangle die. I love the finished edge the die creates. I also die cut a frame from the Altenew Fine Frames Cover Die using Tonic Mirror Card in Gold Pearl to match the sentiment.

I adhered fun foam to the back of the panel and mounted it onto an A2 sized cardbase from Neenah 100 lb. Smooth Desert Storm cardstock.

For my "Happy Birthday" card, I die cut the sentiment from gold glitter cardstock. I then die cut the sentiment from black cardstock. I glued the two together slightly offset so some of the black would appear. I then die cut the shadow die out of vellum and adhered them together.

The alcohol ink panel was die cut from the smallest of the two Pinkfresh Studio Braided Oval dies. I then die cut the larger oval die and layered the two together. I then glued the ovals to an A2 sized teal cardbase.

Here is a quick tutorial on the alcohol ink process. First and foremost, protect your workspace with a craft mat! Grab lots of paper towels and baby wipes and I highly recommend wearing gloves. Trust me, this is a very messy process! :)

Step 1: Add some droplets of blending solution to the silver sparkle cardstock. The blending solution will help the alcohol inks "move".

Step 2: Add droplets of various colours of alcohol inks sporadically. The inks will move on their own. Try to use colours that won't look muddy when they mix together.

Step 3: Add a little blending solution to your craft mat. Using a paint brush, pick up a bit of the blending solution and start blending the ink until you're happy with the result.

Step 4: Let the panel dry. You can speed up the drying process by using your heat tool. Once the panel is fully dry, the sparkle will come through beautifully. Note: The panel in this photo had not fully dried yet, that's why it still looks a little dull.

Step 5: Have fun creating more panels! Use different ink colours and try moving the paint brush differently. Think of it as abstract art. You will get a different and fun result every time!
