Sketch Week with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends,

It's sketch week over at Scrapbook Nerd and I was inspired to create three cards using Concord & 9th products. I just discovered Concord & 9th earlier this year and I think their products are really unique and innovative (i.e. turnabout stamps). I look forward to adding more to my collection and using them on future projects.

Here is the June sketch:

All three of my cards use the Concord & 9th Gingham Background StampConcord & 9th Floral Print Silhouette Stamp and Floral Print Silhouette Die Set.

I don't know about you but I love gingham! Gingham tablecloths, napkins, dresses, you name it! So I was excited to try this stamp set. This stamp is really neat because you can stamp it two ways; with or without the stitching. I think it looks gorgeous both ways as you will see below.

The Floral Silhouette stamps are a 3-step layering stamp which is fun because you can choose all sorts of colour combos and get a fresh look every time. Here is my first card.

I stamped the gingham with Lawn Fawn Peach Fuzz ink. The florals are stamped with Lawn Fawn Hippo, Fake Tan and Peacock inks.

I white heat embossed the sentiment onto matching blue cardstock using Versamark ink and Brutus Monroe Alabaster White embossing powder and added some Tonic Nuvo Crystal Drops in Caribbean Ocean for the finishing touch.

My next card uses Distress Ink Bundled Sage for the gingham background. The florals are stamped with Lawn Fawn Sugar Plum, Lawn Fawn Cilantro and Peeled Paint Distress Inks.

I heat embossed the sentiments using Versafine Onyx Black ink and Ranger Clear Embossing Powder. I added Violet Galaxy Nuvo Drops and some green twine to complete the card.

My final card for today uses Lawn Fawn Mermaid ink for the background. I used Lawn Fawn Peacock ink to stamp the stitching. The florals were stamped with Lawn Fawn Peacock, Mermaid and Lobster inks. The house was die cut from the florals.

I white heat embossed the sentiment onto red cardstock, trimmed a little flag on the end and foam mounted it under the house. I added a die cut heart above the chimney and Studio Katia Canadian Rocks jewels.

And those are my completed projects for today. I hope you will be inspired by today's sketch and create your own card using the supplies you own.

Birthday Bouquet Coloured 3-Ways with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends!

Summer hasn't officially arrived yet but my calendar is already starting to fill up with backyard bbq get-togethers and other outdoor activities. Despite being busy in the summer, I always make time for crafting! It keeps my sanity in check!

This week for the Scrapbook Nerd Creative Team, I created three birthday themed cards that feature the lovely Avery Elle Spring Bouquet stamp and die set and the Avery Elle Oval Burst die. This stamp set features my favourite flower, the Lily, and in each of my card designs I used a different method of colouring.

For my first card, I stamped the lily bouquet onto white cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. I coloured them with Copic alcohol markers and once they were dry, I sprayed them with Sheer Shimmer Spritz spray to give them a very shimmery look.

Next I die cut the Avery Elle Oval Burst die, added foam tape to the back and adhered it to a panel of Gina K Designs Green Grass cardstock. I then adhered it to an A2 sized white cardbase.

I added foam tape to the back of the bouquet and adhered it in the middle of the oval. I then stamped and white heat embossed the sentiment onto black cardstock using Versamark Ink and Brutus Monroe Alabaster White embossing powder. I adhered the sentiment with foam tape across the stems of the bouquet. I added some Pretty Pink Posh Berry Splash Mix jewels for the finishing touch.

On my second card, I stamped the flowers in the same way except this time I used double sided coloured pencils by Chameleon to colour the bouquet. I recently purchased these pencils after watching this Yana Smakula video. She made it look so easy so I just had to try them for myself. This was my first attempt at using pencils on a card and I really like the way it turned out. I'm certainly no expert on using this colouring medium but I hope to get better at it with more practice.

Next, I stamped a vase from the Altenew Versatile Vases stamp set onto a panel of Neenah Solar White 80 lb cardstock. Using a light blue colour pencil, I shaded in the vase to make it look like it's filled with water.

I applied foam tape to the back of the bouquet and added some gold DMC Metallic thread behind that and then adhered the bouquet on top of the vase. Next, I gold heat embossed the sentiment onto the card panel using Versamark Ink and Lawn Fawn Gold Embossing Powder. I adhered the panel to a Lawn Fawn Sugarplum A2 cardbase and finished it off by adding a few iridescent sequins from Simon Says Stamp called Girl's Best Friend.

Here's a peek at the inside of the card. I gold heat embossed a few of the lilies and stamped a sentiment from the Hero Arts Many Birthday Messages stamp set.

On my final card, I stamped the single flower images using Versamark Ink and heat embossed them with Brutus Monroe White Alabaster embossing powder. I watercoloured the flowers using Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers #082 Purple, #025 Pink and #044 Deep Green.

For my watercolouring, I wasn't going for perfection here. I wanted more of a free-flowing, messy kind of watercolour look which I think I achieved.

I die cut the Avery Elle Oval Burst die using Lawn Fawn Fog cardstock and adhered it to a white A2 sized cardbase. I then added foam tape to the flowers and adhered them to the oval frame. I die cut the "Oh Happy Day" sentiment that comes with the Oval Burst die set four times from Lawn Fawn Storm Cloud cardstock and adhered the words together to create dimension. I then adhered the sentiment to the center of the oval. A few Silver Lining Sequins by Simon Says Stamp finishes off the card nicely. I kept this one pretty simple.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope my card projects will inspire you to try different colouring mediums and to let go of the notion that your colouring has to be perfect. I used to compare my colouring skills to others and sometimes it would discourage me from even trying because I didn't think I could measure up. I soon realized that it wasn't about striving for perfection but rather about enjoying the process and knowing that the recipient of my card would appreciate the meaning of the card and not whether my colouring was perfect.

If you are interested in any of the supplies I used in these cards, please stop by the Scrapbook Nerd store.

And if you have any questions or would just like to say hey, leave me a comment below. I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks again and have a wonderful day! :)

All About the Boys with Scrapbook Nerd

Hi friends!

Hope you're all enjoying the nice weather we've been having lately. I don't know about you but I love these temperatures we are having here in Southern Ontario. I'd honestly be fine with Spring all year round!

This week the Scrapbook Nerd Creative Team was asked to create projects with a masculine theme in mind. Since Father's Day is around the corner, I created two cards in the same theme but they couldn't be more different from each other.

My first project is a card I plan to give to my dad on Father's Day. It features the new My Favorite Things All Lined Up Background Cling Stamp. I stamped it on Neenah 100 lb Desert Storm Smooth Cardstock using Antique Linen Distress Ink.

Next, I used one of the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables dies to trim the panel and then adhered it to Ground Coffee cardstock by Lawn Fawn.

The stamp set I used is an older one by Altenew called Best Dad. I stamped the images using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and coloured them using Copic markers. All the images shown in the toolbox are individual stamps. Using my exacto knife, I cut a slit in the toolbox and tucked the images inside it. I don't have the dies for this stamp set, so all the images were fussy cut by hand.

I stamped the sentiment onto blue cardstock using Versamark Ink and heat embossed it with Brutus Monroe White Alabaster embossing powder. I cut it into a rectangle and adhered it across the card.

My next card features one of my favourite Lawn Fawn stamp sets called Toadally Awesome as well as the interactive Reveal Wheel die.

To create my scene, I used a Picket Fence Life Changing Brush and blended Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean distress inks for the sky, and Mermaid Lagoon for the pond. I splattered some water on them and blotted it with a paper towel.

Next, I die cut the Lawn Fawn Bayou Backdrop and Grassy Border. I stamped and coloured my images using Copic markers.

I cut out the panel using the Reveal Wheel die and the opening for the sentiments. Using the Reveal Wheel templates as a guide, I stamped the various sentiments from the Reveal Wheel Spring Sentiments stamp set.

I assembled the Reveal Wheel by following the instructions found in this Lawn Fawn tutorial video. I then adhered my stamped images to the front of the card and foam mounted the panel onto one of the patterned papers from the Lawn Fawn Really Rainbow Scallops 6x6 paper pack.

Here's a video showing how the different sentiments are revealed when you turn the wheel.

And those are my completed cards for this week. I really enjoyed this week's theme as it's not often that I create masculine cards and they're so fun to make!

Many of the products I used on my cards today can be found in the Scrapbook Nerd shop.
